How to open the CPP/OAS Optimizer

Open the CPP OAS Optimizer, run it, and read the ranked results. You still choose the start age.

CPP OAS Optimizer compares CPP and OAS start ages for the client and their spouse. It does not change the plan. You choose the age after you read the results.

Before you run it

The optimizer uses a percentage for the assumed CPP and OAS collection. If CPP or OAS was entered as an exact dollar amount for either person, Run CPP OAS Optimizer stays grey.

It also skips a person when that benefit has already started, or when CPP or OAS was not included for them in the plan.

Run it

  1. Open the client's Financial Insights and confirm Current Scenario.

  2. Open the Analysis tab.

  3. Under Simulations, select CPP OAS Optimizer.

  4. Select Run CPP OAS Optimizer.

The run compares collection-age combinations and can take up to 10 minutes. Stay on the page. When it finishes, the page shows Earliest ages tested by the optimizer and how many combinations were run.

Results are grouped by each person's Living to age. Each group lists that person's CPP Age and OAS Age, and Cumulative CPP and OAS After-Tax Income. These are the highest-ranked combinations, including OAS clawback when it applies. They do not change the plan.

Which age to use stays with the advisor.
