How to use the Details tables to trace a number (cash flow, net worth, present value)

Trace a Financial Insights chart or summary figure to the Details row, year, and value on the selected scenario.

Use Details when a chart or Summary number needs a row-level check. Use the Dashboard or Plan Review charts to see the projection first, then open Details to find the year or row behind a surprising figure. Record the exact table, row, column, year, and displayed value for the selected scenario.

Before you begin

  • Open Financial Insights and confirm Current Scenario.

  • Note the figure you want to trace: the year, account type, or cash-flow line, plus the screen and label you are comparing it with.

  • Statements are as-of-today. Financial Insights charts and Details are forward-looking. A mismatch can be a different time basis, not an error in the plan.

Start with the chart

  1. Confirm Current Scenario.

  2. Open the chart on Dashboard or Plan Review.

  3. Use the legend to show or hide series so the conversation stays focused.

  4. If a point looks surprising, continue with Details.

Charts follow the sliders, toggles, and Assumptions on the open scenario. A chart is not the Statement net-worth view. Hiding a series in the legend does not remove it from the plan.

Trace the number in Details

  1. Open the client's Financial Insights scenario.

  2. Open Details.

  3. Select the table that matches what you are tracing, such as Cash Flow, Net Worth, or Present Value when that view is available. You can also open a year grid under the chart, or a Details view such as Investment Activity Summary.

  4. Locate the year or row that matches the figure.

  5. Check related columns, such as inflows, outflows, taxes, and account balances, to see what is sitting beside the number.

  6. Use full screen when you need more table room. Use export to Excel when you want an offline worksheet.

  7. Record the exact table name, row, column, year, and displayed value, and the source figure you are comparing, including its screen, label, year or date, and value.

  8. If you are reviewing a change, capture the before and after states without changing another input.

Details traces the open scenario, not every saved scenario at once. Exact table names follow your workspace; use the Details navigation shown.

If the driver is a strategy control, return to toggles, sliders, or Assumptions, adjust, and re-check Details. A toggle may be on but ineffective. If the driver is a client fact, use Return to Evaluation, save the Evaluation edit, then update Assumptions or clone the scenario as needed. Evaluation edits do not automatically rewrite existing scenario Assumptions.

If the result looks wrong

You should be able to point to the table row, or set of rows, behind the chart or Summary figure for that scenario. If the comparison remains unexplained, send Planworth Support the client, scenario name, table, row, column, year, displayed value, comparison source, expected result, actual result, and screenshots. Do not change client information or scenario assumptions simply to force a number.

Check these first:

  • You are comparing a Statement figure with Financial Insights Details.

  • Current Scenario is the plan you meant to review.

  • An Evaluation edit was expected to change saved Assumptions on its own.

  • A chart series is hidden in the legend and still included in the plan.
