How to review return assumptions and set account-level portfolio overrides

Review scenario return assumptions and choose portfolio or custom-allocation overrides for individual accounts.

Use the return and portfolio settings saved on the selected scenario. If you need to bring in the signed-in advisor’s current Advisor Settings, review the Sync section below before continuing: either Sync control updates both return values and portfolios.

Choose the area that matches the task

Financial Insights uses three connected areas for returns and allocations:

  • Asset Types – Rate of Return — review the scenario’s expected return and standard-deviation values by asset class.

  • Portfolios – Asset Allocations — review the scenario’s pre- and post-retirement portfolio allocations and the gross return, management fee and net return displayed for each phase.

  • Detailed Returns — choose a pre- and post-retirement portfolio, or a custom allocation, for a specific account. The screen displays the resulting Net RoR.

The areas are connected: asset-class return values and portfolio definitions feed the return shown for a portfolio or custom allocation. An account-level choice in Detailed Returns controls which portfolio or custom allocation that account uses for each phase.

Review the scenario’s asset-class returns

  1. Open Financial Insights and confirm Current Scenario.

  2. Open Assumptions → Asset Types – Rate of Return.

  3. Review the expected return and standard deviation shown for each applicable asset class.

  4. Enter the values selected for the scenario.

  5. Select Save.

Set an account-level portfolio override in Detailed Returns

  1. Open Assumptions → Detailed Returns.

  2. Find the intended account. Cash accounts show the scenario’s fixed cash-interest return and do not offer portfolio selectors.

  3. Under Pre-Retire Portfolio and Post-Retire Portfolio, choose Use Default Portfolio or select one of the available portfolios. The adjacent Net RoR updates for that phase.

  4. A portfolio selection is saved immediately; there is no page-level Save step for that selection.

  5. To define an account-specific mix instead, select Use custom allocation for the applicable phase, enter allocations totalling 100%, enter the management fee shown in the panel, and select Save in that panel.

  6. Review the intended account, phase, portfolio or custom allocation, and displayed Net RoR.

Sync from Advisor Settings

Both Asset Types – Rate of Return and Portfolios – Asset Allocations show the same Sync with Advisor Settings action. Either control replaces both sets of values using the signed-in advisor’s saved Advisor Settings. See How to sync a scenario with Advisor Settings before using it.

If the expected account is missing, a portfolio is unavailable, or the displayed Net RoR cannot be reconciled with the selected portfolio or custom allocation, contact Planworth Support with the scenario, account, phase, selection and displayed Net RoR. Return selection and suitability remain with the advisor.
