2026 tax updates

Federal brackets, CPP, QPP, EI, TFSA, RRSP, OAS, and the capital gains exemption Planworth uses for 2026.

Planworth's tax calculations use the 2026 figures below, in effect as of 1 January 2026. Indexation from 2025 to 2026 is 2.0%. From 2024 to 2025 it was 4.7%.

This is a record of the figures in the plan. It is not a tax calculation for a client.

Federal brackets

Federal thresholds increased. The federal rates are unchanged, except the second bracket, which is 14.00% in 2026.

Other 2026 figures

  • CPP / QPP pensionable earnings. The maximum pensionable earnings are $74,600, up from $71,300 in 2025. The basic exemption stays $3,500. CPP2 and QPP2 apply at 4% on pensionable earnings from $74,600 to $85,000. See the CRA page on second additional CPP contributions.

  • CPP contribution. The employee rate stays 5.95%. The 2026 maximum is $4,230.45, up from $4,034.10 in 2025, because the earnings ceiling increased.

  • QPP contribution. The employee rate is 6.30%. The 2026 maximum is $4,479.30.

  • EI insurable earnings. The maximum increased from $65,700 in 2025 to $68,900 in 2026.

  • EI contribution. The 2026 employee rate is 1.63%, to a maximum of $1,123.07. In 2025 the rate was 1.64%, to a maximum of $1,077.48. For Quebec, the 2026 rate is 1.31%, to a maximum of $902.59.

  • TFSA room. The 2026 TFSA limit stays $7,000, the same as 2025.

  • RRSP room. The maximum increased from $32,490 in 2025 to $33,810 in 2026.

  • Lifetime capital gains exemption. The exemption increased to $1,275,000 for 2026.

  • Federal age amount. The age amount for clients 65 or older is $9,208 for 2026. The clawback starts at $46,432. Provincial amounts increased as well. Ontario is $6,342, with a clawback starting at $47,210.

  • CPP / QPP payments. The maximum retirement pension for 2026 is $1,433.00 a month.

  • OAS payments. The maximum OAS for 2026 is $742.31 a month, or $816.54 for clients 75 or older.

  • OAS clawback. The clawback threshold increased from $93,454 in 2025 to $95,323 in 2026.
