Understanding the Evaluation

Learn how to enter and maintain client financial information, manage Evaluation sections, review completion progress, and use the information in financial planning.

The Evaluation is where you enter and maintain a client's financial information in Planworth. This information is used across Statements, Wealth Insights, and Financial Insights.

You do not need to complete every Evaluation section or reach 100% completion before creating a financial plan. However, you should enter enough information to accurately represent the client's financial situation.

1. Before You Begin

Before completing an Evaluation, confirm the following:

  • Client Profile: The client must already exist in Planworth.

  • Date of Birth: Confirm that the primary client's date of birth is entered under Family Info. Financial Insights will not open without this information.

  • Evaluation Type: Select the Core or Pro Evaluation available in your workspace. Corporations and Family Trusts are available under Pro.

  • Data Entry: Financial information can be entered manually. SideDrawer is also available as an optional tool in supported workspaces.

2. Open the Evaluation

To access a client's Evaluation:

  1. Open the Client Dashboard.

  2. Select Evaluations.

  3. Choose Core or Pro, depending on the Evaluation available in your workspace.

You can also access the Evaluation through the Evaluation progress widget.

The Evaluation opens on the Preliminary page, where you can identify the financial information relevant to the client.

3. Complete the Preliminary Checklist

The Preliminary page determines which sections appear in the client's Evaluation.

Review the checklist and select the financial accounts, assets, liabilities, and other information that apply to the household.

Your selections automatically open the corresponding sections in the left navigation. Items that are not selected generally remain hidden.

Depending on the Evaluation type and available features, Preliminary may include:

  • Savings and Investments: Bank accounts, non-registered accounts, TFSA, RRSP, RIF, LIRA, LIF, defined-contribution pensions, RESP, and FHSA.

  • Real Estate: Principal residence, cottage, and other properties.

  • Debts: Mortgages and home equity lines of credit (HELOCs).

  • Insurance: Life insurance and other insurance policies.

  • Unique Assets: Other applicable asset types.

  • Estate Planning: Estate planning documents.

  • Corporations: Private corporation shares (Pro only).

  • Family Trusts: Family trust information (Pro only).

Career and employment selections also influence the Income section and the guidance displayed in the Evaluation.

Important: Available options may differ depending on the Evaluation type, workspace, and household. If a section you expect to see is missing, return to Preliminary and confirm that the corresponding option is selected.

4. Enter Client Financial Information

Once you've completed Preliminary, work through the sections that appear in the left navigation. Enter the financial information you want reflected in the client's plan.

Common sections include:

  • Savings

  • Income

  • Real Estate

  • Real Estate Debt

  • Insurance

  • Unique Assets

  • Estate Planning

  • Corporations and Family Trusts, where applicable

  • Spending, when available

The fields and options displayed may vary depending on the client's Evaluation.

Adding Savings and Investment Accounts

Under Savings, enter the client's applicable financial accounts, such as TFSAs, RRSPs, and non-registered investments. Complete the available fields for each account and save the information.

Adding Real Estate

Under Real Estate, enter the client's properties, including the applicable ownership information and property values. Property values and related debts are entered separately.

For example, the property is recorded under Real Estate, while the associated mortgage is entered under Real Estate Debt.

Completing Other Sections

Continue through the remaining sections that apply to the client.

For each section, complete the visible fields and save the information using the available controls. If a section is missing, return to Preliminary and review the selected options. Section availability may also depend on the Evaluation type, workspace, or household.

5. Review Evaluation Progress

Each Evaluation section displays a completion percentage based on the fields and requirements that apply to the client.

A section showing 100% with a checkmark indicates that its completion requirements have been met. However, 100% completion does not necessarily mean that all relevant financial information has been entered.

For example:

  • A section may be considered complete when the client indicates that they do not hold a particular account.

  • Corporations and Family Trusts may reach 100% after completing General Info, even when other subsections remain incomplete.

Before moving into financial planning, review the sections you've completed and confirm that the information accurately represents the client's financial situation.

You can also review the Overall Net Worth displayed in the Evaluation to help verify the information entered.

Remember: You do not need every section to reach 100% before creating a scenario in Financial Insights.

6. How the Evaluation Connects to Financial Planning

The information entered in the Evaluation is used across several areas of Planworth.

Statements

Statements display as-of-today financial information based on the client's current profile.

Wealth Insights

Wealth Insights uses the client's financial information to identify tax and estate planning opportunities and recommendations.

Financial Insights

Financial Insights uses the client's financial information to create and project planning scenarios.

When a scenario is created, its assumptions are saved and remain in place until you edit them. Current Evaluation information, such as accounts, real estate, and debts, feeds the financial plan as it runs.

Important: Updating the Evaluation does not automatically rewrite the saved assumptions in an existing scenario.

7.. Troubleshooting

An Evaluation Section Is Missing

Return to Preliminary and confirm that the corresponding option is selected.

If the section still does not appear, verify that you are using the appropriate Core or Pro Evaluation.

The Completion Percentage Is Not Updating

  • Reopen the section and confirm that the information was saved.

  • Check the visible fields and use the applicable Save or Done control.

  • Remember that completion percentages reflect the requirements for each section and do not necessarily indicate whether all financial information has been entered.

Financial Insights Does Not Open

Confirm that the primary client's date of birth is entered under Family Info.

If it is missing, enter and save the date of birth, then reopen Financial Insights.

Evaluation Changes Are Not Reflected in an Existing Scenario

An existing scenario retains its saved assumptions, even when information in the Evaluation changes. Review the scenario's Assumptions and update them as needed, or create a new scenario. Reopen the relevant area and confirm the displayed information before relying on the results.
